Linz Art University’s institutional roots go back to the Art School of the City of Linz that was founded in 1947, upgraded to an institution of higher education in 1973, and became a university in 1998. Its faculty is engaged in teaching, research and artistic development, whereby the emphasis is on spatial strategies, artistic & scholarly research, and intermediality. Linz Art University offers courses of study in Interface Cultures, Media Design, Media Theory and Time-based and Interactive Media. A Department of Media has been set up as a cluster of programs dealing with the conception, production and analysis of media and media art. The department’s approach is characterized by the interplay of theory and practice.
