Future Begins – Negotiating Humanity
Anniversaries are always a good opportunity to take stock, to evaluate the validity and relevance of the ideas and concepts behind Ars Electronica. Founded in 1979 as a festival for art, technology, and society, it is not surprising that two themes are constantly at the heart of our considerations and activities: shaping the future and the position of humankind (as individuals and within societies) in a reality increasingly shaped by technology.
“Future Begins” and “Negotiating Humanity” are therefore the two thematic concepts of the year 2026—47 years after the first Ars Electronica Festival and 30 years since the opening of the Ars Electronica Center, which also initiated the development of Ars Electronica’s unique ecosystem.
